COVID-19 FAQs

The NIA Board of Directors are actively monitoring local and state guidance regarding beach operations to keep our members safe. We have provided opening guidelines for May 2020. These guidelines are subject to change as the 2020 season progresses.

We are in unprecedented times and we ask members to follow the opening guidelines, act responsibly/neighborly and have patience as we address your concerns.

We welcome your questions and will continue to answer them on this webpage once the board of directors has a chance to review.

How many people can be on the beach at one time? What’s the max. capacity?

  • Sandy: 60
  • Mary Lou: 40
  • Noble’s Cove: 20
  • North: 20

What do I do if the beach is already at max. capacity?

If you find you are unable to utilize the beaches because the capacity of the beach has been reached, please let us know by emailing niawestford@gmail.com.  We would like to track how often this happens to determine if we need to make adjustments to our current operating policies.

How will the number of people on the beach be monitored and managed?

We are asking for help from you, the membership.  If the beach is crowded, please come back at a different time or use one of the three other NIA beaches.  Board members will try to frequent the beaches to check-in on the numbers, but cannot manage all four beaches consistently.  Please use the niawestford@gmail.com email or the phone number posted at the beaches to help make us aware of a circumstance that requires a Board member’s attention.  We appreciate your vigilance in helping manage this situation.

Would it be possible to set up an on-line method to sign up for time-slots or reserve a time/date for the beach?

We are evaluating this possibility and will inform members if we institute an on-line reservation system for high usage times. We need to keep in mind the needs of all members. Not everyone is comfortable with technology or how to utilize on-line reservation platforms.

I understand no guests are allowed this year, but can I bring my grandchildren? Can our nanny bring our children?

Yes – minor grandchildren may accompany current members. Caregivers/nannies may also bring your children to the beach. Please review the beach rules and COVID related restrictions with everyone before their first trip to the beach.

How should the picnic tables and beach chairs be disinfected?

Please use a disinfectant spray or wipe on shared picnic tables and beach chairs after you have cleaned the surface of any food or sand debris. Clean then disinfect. Wipe down or spray the tabletop and bench portion of the picnic table. Wipe down or spray any touched surface of the beach chair.

Members are responsible for providing their own disinfectants.

Please refer to the EPA list of disinfectants for use against SARS-CoV-2. Here are some of the registered disinfectants on the EPA’s list:
